California Air Resources Board Approves ORYXE Energy’s Emissions-Reducing
Diesel Fuel Formulation
Approval Marks First Time an Independent Additive Company Achieves CARB Certification
Irvine, Calif. – Dec. 23, 2008 - ORYXE Energy received executive order G-714-037 today from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approving its additive-based, alternative diesel fuel formulation for use in California. The approval marks the first time a non-refiner has achieved a CARB certification.
ORYXE Energy’s CARB diesel formulation contains a proprietary, emissions-reducing additive called ORYXE® LED+ 5511 that is mixed with prescriptively blended diesel at refineries or fuel terminals. The additive’s unique ingredient is biodegradable, non-metallic and non-toxic.
“Our goal in pursuing this certification was to give refiners and importers the flexibility needed to produce CARB diesel more cost effectively and possibly increase supply,” said James M. Cleary, chairman and chief executive officer of ORYXE Energy. “We are very happy with our success thus far, and look forward to continuing our efforts to provide clean and efficient energy solutions.”
To be certified by CARB, ORYXE Energy had to follow a rigorous engine testing protocol and demonstrate that a high aromatics, ultra low sulfur candidate diesel fuel treated with the LED+ 5511 additive produced an equivalent or better emissions profile than a low aromatics, ultra low sulfur CARB reference fuel (untreated) for the following emissions: Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), Particulate Matter (PM) and the Soluble Organic Fraction (SOF) of PM.
The testing was performed at West Virginia University’s National Research Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines, and Emissions, which is one of only three labs accepted by CARB to certify California diesel fuel formulations.
LED+ 5511 is ORYXE Energy’s second additive product to be approved by a state regulatory body. The company’s NOx-reducing additive for both diesel and biodiesel was the first to be approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for use in the Texas Low Emission Diesel (TxLED) market. ORYXE Energy is currently supplying LED+ 5510 to a wide range of customers, including refiners, distributors, terminals and municipalities in Texas.
