ORYXE Energy Appoints Gerry Berard to Lead Texas Sales

Irvine, Calif. – May 23, 2005 – ORYXE Energy International tapped a Houston-area energy industry veteran to help meet the growing demand for its diesel additive across East Texas. Gerry Berard, previously a consultant to ORYXE Energy, is joining the company full-time to supervise Gulf Regional Sales. ORYXE Energy develops and markets proprietary fuel additives for diesel, gasoline and heavy distillates to enable these fuels to burn cleaner and reduce toxic emissions.

ORYXE Energy’s growth in Texas comes at a time when producers, refiners, terminal operators and other suppliers of diesel fuel are preparing to meet the October 1, 2005 deadline for Texas Low Emission Diesel (TX-LED). ORYXE Energy’s product, ORYXE LED, is in high demand as the only splash-blended additive to win approval by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for use in alternative plans to meet the new TX-LED requirement.

“Our team includes energy industry experts committed to our mission of reducing toxic emissions and improving air quality,” said ORYXE Energy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Walter Schindler. “Gerry Berard is a perfect fit to represent us in Texas. He is a proven leader in the industry and customers will benefit from his experience as they work to supply TX-LED qualifying fuel.”

Prior to joining ORYXE Energy, Berard served as manager of supply and pricing at El Paso Merchant Energy Petroleum Company. Previously, he served as National Manager of Coastal Express Fleet Fueling for Coastal Refining & Marketing, Inc. At Coastal, Berard created the Coastal Express fleet fueling proprietary credit card program. Berard also served as a founding member of the Wright Express Private Label Board.

A longtime Houston resident, Berard is recognized for his leadership and service to community organizations, including the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Food Bank, Compaq Houston Marathon and Coastal Corporation United Way Campaign. He is also Director of Volunteers for Houston’s bid to host the 2012 Olympics. Berard’s volunteer work has resulted in a number of awards, including the Presidential Action Award.

Berard earned his master’s degree from Houston Baptist University and his bachelor’s degree at Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

“ORYXE Energy offers a great product and a cost-effective solution for supplying the Texas market with low-emission diesel,” Berard said. “This company is leading the way to cleaner fuel standards and as part of this team, I have the chance to make a difference by improving air quality in my hometown.”

ORYXE LED’s approval by the TCEQ followed a rigorous engine testing protocol performed at the West Virginia University National Research Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines, and Emissions laboratory, recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency and certified by the California Air Resources Board. The tests were conducted under strict federal testing guidelines and procedures.

The tests showed that ORYXE LED demonstrated a greater than 5.7 percent reduction in Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), greater than 20 percent reduction in Total Hydrocarbons (THC), the main contributors to smog formation, and approximately 10 percent reduction in Carbon Monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas, all major concerns for Texas air quality stewards. Widespread use of ORYXE LED in diesel fuel would result in reducing up to 6,000 tons of NOx annually.
