EPA Scientific and Technology Achievement Award Winner John H. Pohl, Sc.D., Joins ORYXE Energy
Irvine, Calif. – Sept. 13, 2005 – ORYXE Energy International engaged a leading authority on boiler-fired fossil fuels, John H. Pohl, Sc.D., to help develop its new additive products for residual fuel and coal.
Pohl, formerly a research professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a senior scientist at W.J. Schafer Associates, received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Scientific and Technology Achievement Award for his work on flare flames, which established the criteria for emissions in the U.S. He is also a co-inventor on five U.S. patents in combustion technology and pollution control and has over 30 years academic and industry experience in chemical engineering with residual fuel and coal applications.
As ORYXE Energy’s Director of Research and Development, Residual Fuel and Coal, Pohl will manage the design of the company’s stationary fuel experiments, the execution of lab and field testing and the analysis and reporting of results obtained.
“Dr. Pohl’s expertise further strengthens ORYXE Energy’s ability to deliver innovative emission reduction technologies that provide significant value for our customers,” said Walter Schindler, chairman and CEO of ORYXE Energy. “Dr. Pohl has been a professor at top-tier universities, the author of 160 technical papers and a consultant to worldwide energy companies. We are looking forward to his contributions to the ORYXE Energy suite of additives.”
Pohl has held professor and lecturer positions at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Queensland in Australia and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He also has held senior positions at Energy Systems Associates and Sandia National Laboratories. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley and his Masters and Doctorate degrees in the same discipline at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
ORYXE Energy develops and markets proprietary fuel additives for diesel, gasoline and heavy distillates to enable these fuels to burn cleaner and reduce toxic emissions. Earlier this year, the company launched its first product-to-market, ORYXE LED, the first proportionally-injected additive to be approved for use in meeting the new Texas Low Emission Diesel rule.
